Winter 2009 Athlete Encounters (Georgia Tech, Kevin Brown's Celebrity Golf
Classic, Falcon's Face to Face at Stats, Atlanta Thrashers, and More...)
By: Chad Blake

I know it has been awhile since I have written much but life keeps me busy with: A three year old, Blake Realty, GGEMCO, a
recent surgery, and just life in general. We have had some good successes lately and even a negative event for most people at the
Falcon's Face to Face with Matt Ryan.

Being a huge Georgia Tech fan, I have had a lot to cheer about this year and we had a lot of fun following the Yellow Jackets and
hopefully we will have a couple of guys out for our Toys for Tots events, so stayed tuned for that. We have been fortunate enough
to get a few good photos with some of the players and future NFL stars and collected some great new items for our collection and
our auctions! If you are a big Georgia Tech fan, come out to one of our auctions and check out some of our new items.

Recently, I had a pretty cool experience thanks to Robert with Regency Fine Art as I helped him with his auction at the Atlanta
Thrashers season ticket holders event. I was able to go around and buy some game used and game issued Thrashers items from
current and former players, such as: Marian Hossa (Gloves), Todd White (Gloves), a few sticks, some practice jerseys, and game
pucks. The event was a lot of fun and even though they are pretty easy to get during training camp, I was able to get all but five of
the players on one jersey and other items I had. This was a great event for all their fans and they did a good job putting it on.

Onto Macon, where we helped promote Kevin Brown's Celebrity Golf Classic. I want to say "Thank You" to everyone who came
out to support such a great cause. At least half of the people that paid for the autograph line were people I know and by you coming
out to these events will definitely help them continue to exist. Once again by trading out some advertisement and some auction items,
we got quite a few new items and multiples of many of the people in attendance, such as: Kevin Brown, Kenny Rogers, Charley
Trippi, Chris Mohr, Terance Mathis, John "Blue Moon" Odom, Lowery Robinson, Dan Roundfield, Jeff Harper, Mark Johnson,
Nanci Bowen, and more. I have to give another "Thank You" to Jaime Kaplan for helping us out again this year. It seemed like the
event was another great success!

I don't want to end on a bad note, but it was either the Falcons or Matt Ryan (depends on who you ask), but his recent Face to
Face appearance at Stats was a complete train wreck and was very unfair to all the fans that support them and to the kids who
came out for a picture, autograph, or just a chance to meet their idol. The Face to Face events are usually a great way to obtain at
least one autograph from a current or former Falcons, but for some reason they raffled off only 15 autograph opportunities for all the
fans in attendance. We were fortunate enough to get one winning ticket and since I just had surgery, Matt was nice enough to sign
an extra football for me. Matt is our number request at our auctions, so I have to say I am very fortunate to have gotten another
football signed. It was a rough night because I was in a lot of pain and the pain pills weren't working and no one knew what in the
world was going on. I have run and been involved with a lot more events than what the Falcon's workers have even seen and here is
a piece of advise. You will never make everyone happy and some people who collect autographs push the limits by being ungrateful,
disrespectful, and are not courtious of others (especially children). However, most of your autograph seekers are very grateful for
the opportunity to receive an autograph and/or picture. Do like they did last year at ESPN Zone, hand out wristbands to your most
loyal fans and then by first come, first serve or by reservations. If the player can't take 30 minutes out of their life to sign for some
kids and their fans, then don't waste everyone's time, money, and effort and either choose another player or don't do it at all. All you
did was make more people upset than you made happy and you turned off a lot people from your sponsor, Stats, and Matt Ryan,
and the Falcon's Organization as a whole. I have bragged for the past few years on how great the Falcons have been in the
community by bringing the players to multiple events and you have helped the charities and organizations that I work with raise a lot
of money they would not have had otherwise. I still believe the Falcons do more than any other sports organization in Atlanta and I
hope that this was just a hiccup and not the beginning of the norm. Now then, all the other Face to Face events I have attended this
year have been well run and a lot of fun to attend. The opportunity to get up close to all the Falcons stars has been a real treat and
we have a lot of new memories for us and some great new pictures with our son. It has definitely allowed us to obtain some great
new items for us to share with others and to add to our collection, so for that I have to say "Thank You"!

As football winds down and the weather gets colder, just keep in mind the bigger picture for all of us. We are going to be giving a
lot of great opportunities for everyone to collect some new autographs and memories. In return, come out and support all our great
causes and have some fun. Our events are meant to be enjoyable and if you can't enjoy them, than go do something else because
autograph collecting should be a fun and exciting experience for all. As always, good luck out there, be kind to others, and we hope
to see you all soon!
